EXPLORE
It sounds dangerous, but only if you’re a ship travelling too close to the shoreline or perhaps trying to surf the crowded breaks of nearby Duranbah or Snappers Rock. Point Danger is a big, bold, and beautiful headland right on the border between Coolangatta, Queensland, and Tweed Heads, New South Wales.
HISTORY
Captain James Cook gave it its name back in 1770 to alert sailors about the dangerous reefs. Since 1863, this headland has been the official line between Queensland and New South Wales.
THE PROS
The headland's got a public park with BBQ spots, picnic tables, and shaded shelters.
You can take great photos of the Gold Coast coastline.
It's popular for checking out the whales in the migrating season, and watching the local surfers battle it out on the waves.
A great walk that connects directly to the Gold Coast Oceanway, and a scenic coastal pathway.
There's a popular cafe at the top. Great for takeaway, but hard to get a seat to eat in.
THE CONS
Not a great place to hang out on a windy day.
